We’re bringing together North America’s developer community for our first ever Hackathon in Chicago! Together we will build innovative software for the future using Spark AR, Messenger and React/React Native – with some awesome prizes on offer.

Over two days, attendees will be focusing on one or more of the following areas:

Gaming and entertainment – let’s add some fun into our forward-thinking!
Productivity and utility – let’s strive to make applications more efficient!
Social Cohesion – together, let’s build to make our neighborhoods more connected and address issues of loneliness, segregation, and inequity!

There will also be plenty of opportunity to network with fellow developers, and to take advantage of on-site coaching and advice from the Facebook team as you build your skills in emerging technologies.

*This is an invite-only event. All participants were considered based on the details provided in their application and accepted after an extensive review.

Eligibility

This hackathon is only open to participants who were accepted and confirmed entry by Facebook, Inc. prior to the hackathon AND who attend the hackathon in person.

Requirements

Main Requirement: Working in teams, create a software application that helps enable the best of what people can do together.

The use of the featured Facebook Developer technologies and products is a requirement:

  • Spark AR

  • Messenger

  • React/React Native 

 

Prizes will be awarded to the best hackathon applications, for each of the following categories:

  •  Social Cohesion – together, let’s build to make our neighborhoods more connected and address issues of loneliness, segregation, and inequity!!

 

HOW TO ENTER

  1. Enter your completed submission form BEFORE 6 PM PST NOVEMBER 2, 2019. Late submissions will NOT be accepted! 
  2. Ensure at least one member of your team is at your assigned table for the entire judging period in order to demo to the judges. You may be asked to demo more than once and if your team’s table is empty when the judges come by, you may be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

  • Quality of the Idea (30%)
    Includes creativity and originality of the idea.
  • Implementation of the Idea (50%)
    Includes how well the idea was executed by the developer and the extent to which the Facebook products were leveraged, and considerations for user privacy.
  • Potential Impact (20%)
    How much impact the product could have in its stated strategy.
